There’s a new dining hot spot in Toronto’s Distillery District – one from Mathew Rosenblatt and John Berman of neighbourhood staples El Catrin and Cluny Bistro.
Taking over the prime real estate of the former Tappo Wine Bar – a spot that managed to stay busy and relevant for a good decade – is Madrina (2 Trinity St.), an already bustling Spanish restaurant that will satisfy your tapas craving with a menu full of modern interpretations of classic Iberian small plates. The comforting creations of Executive Chef Roman Simarro are the product of authentic ingredients from Spain, and the menu fuses innovation with fun Barcelona classics.
"...warm and rustically designed..."
The detailed touches aren’t just reserved for the culinary offerings, and the bar program is just as well-received. Appreciated drink options include things like a signature white sangria by the pitcher, a selection of gin and tonics, and a homemade chamomile soda – all solid options to enjoy once the patio opens for business.
Designed by Studio Munge and brought to life by Build It By Design, notable touches of the warm and rustically designed spot include an open kitchen bar with seating, wine bottles as talking points, arched oak doorways, and playful artwork from Mattea Perrotta.
