Oceanwide Plaza: Looking around one of Downtown LA’s biggest developments

We've got big plans for Los Angeles!

It’s been a while since we’ve checked in on Oceanwide Plaza, the massive three-tower development currently rising across the street from Staples Center. So, we took a look around the busy construction site, where crews are hard at work on the project—one of many on the way to booming South Park.

With a small army of cranes overhead, the trio of structures have begun to take form. Once complete, the tallest of the three towers will rise 49 stories, or 677 feet above sea level. The two other structures will be 40 stories each. All three buildings will rise from a seven-story podium wrapped with an enormous LED sign set to span the length of the block.

In October, the project’s developers announced that luxury hotel brand Park Hyatt would be signing on to operate a 184-room, five-star hotel in the complex.

In addition to the hotel, the finished project will include 504 condos and 166,000 square feet of open-air retail area space. Designed by CallisonRTKL, the three towers will have a sleek, glassy design, while the lower podium will be topped by green space and amenities for residents and guests of the hotel.

Representatives for the developers tell Curbed that construction is proceeding on schedule and the project is on track to open in 2019.
