Akira Back at Toronto’s Bisha Hotel has been named Best North American Hospitality Project by the prestigious Build 2018 Architecture Awards.
Now in its fourth year, the Architecture Awards recognize and acknowledge the outstanding works conducted by imaginative designers, engineers and visionaries around the world.
“The unique Akira Back experience can be equally contributed to the outstanding menu and exceptional design features,” says Charles Khabouth, CEO, INK Entertainment. “As the first-ever Canadian namesake restaurant for renowned chef Akira Back, it’s exciting to see this Toronto venue recognized on an international scale.”
Toronto-based Studio Munge designed the venue as a modern and glamorous expression of the Japanese dining experience. Subtle nods to Japanese culture appear through refined and intimate details, which balance the central design feature — a full length cove ceiling showcasing a colourful custom graphic inspired by Back’s mother’s paintings.
Back has been awarded one Michelin Star for his innovative restaurant concept DOSA in Seoul, South Korea and was welcomed as an honourary guest chef at the renowned James Beard Foundation in New York earlier this year.
