Toronto-based architectural practice Studio Munge has completed work on Sofia, a new Italian concept in the Yorkville section of the Ontario capital. Crafted in collaboration with fellow locally based firm Giancarlo Garofalo Architect Inc., the restaurant is conceived as an artistic journey through a residential estate.
Partitioned into uniquely designed spaces, Sofia accommodates 150 seats in the dining room, 64 in the bar, and 110 in the patio. Spread across more than 10,100 square feet, Sofia is clad with rich red wall paneling that offsets its pervasive black and white marble. Diners are welcomed in the main foyer, which is characterized by a prism of high contrasts that set the tone for the rest of the Art Deco-inspired interior. The eatery is further punctuated with a variety of contemporary artwork from artists such as Jeff Koons and Mr Brainwash.
